Levels

The original game's curve, unchanged: gentle at first, then steep. Each level brings 3 stat points and, up to level 50, a purse of 50 gold.

How experience is earned

A monster's worth is rolled when it is born. Two thirds of it is paid as it is fought, a point for each point of damage, to whoever deals it; the rest goes to the one who lands the killing blow.

New heroes earn three times as much at level 1, the bonus fading a little each level until it is gone at 80.

Monsters teach less as you outgrow them: full experience up to 2 levels above them, then less and less until nothing at 10 levels above. A monster above your level gives 5% more for each level, up to 25%.

Total experience by level; level 180 needs 119,633,989.
